ENND PARTNERS CO., LTD.
Hakuhodo DY Holdings Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President:Yasuo Nishiyama) and the Hakuhodo DY Group's consulting firm ENND PARTNERS CO.,LTD. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Co-Founder & CEO: Masanobu Iwabuchi; hereinafter "ENND Partners") have published the Japanese translation of the "IDEO Innovation Quotient (IDEO IQ)". This is a research report on behavioral characteristics that enhance organizational business results, created by IDEO, a design and innovation firm under the Group's strategic business unit kyu. This research report was announced in the United States in April of this year and garnered interest from many companies. In response, ENND Partners has translated it into Japanese.
For the IDEO IQ, a survey was conducted targeting 266 product and innovation leaders across 100 of the world's leading companies in healthcare, media & technology, and consumer goods. IDEO evaluated the extent to which each company implements five cultural behavioral characteristics—which they call the "POWER" dynamics—using a scoring system, and analyzed their correlation with business results. As a result, a correlation was found between the following behavioral characteristics and business results.
The Japanese version of this research report can be downloaded from the ENND Partners website (http://enndpartners.com/documents/ideo-iq.pdf).
ENND Partners supports executives and leaders who feel challenged by organizational development and innovation creation, and works together with them to solve these issues.
In the rapidly changing AI era, investing in intellectual assets, intangible assets, and human capital for innovation is becoming crucial for Japanese companies to succeed globally. In light of the "POWER" dynamics in this report, for Japanese organizations that tend toward local optimization, it is becoming increasingly important to establish strategic mechanisms for 'Ownership' (autonomy and independence) and 'Wavelength' (cross-departmental collaboration) to function, as well as communication that moves people organically. Regarding 'Resonance' (customer empathy), we feel there is a significant opportunity in shifting from the mindset of treating 'all customers equally' to focusing on 'specialized experiences for strategically important customers in the global market'. By fusing the strengths of Japanese-style meticulous manufacturing, high service levels, and coexistence with nature and society with the behavioral patterns of globally successful organizations, we hope to shape a new human-centered value creation model from Japan together with you.
Having spent much of my career in Japan, I have a deep respect for Japanese companies' meticulous craftsmanship and their attitude of valuing people. That is exactly why I want to convey that the most difficult challenge for these companies in making a global leap is how they penetrate the market. It is important to fundamentally rethink as an organization how to overcome differences in speed, talent, investment, and culture. What IDEO IQ has revealed is that what separates outstanding companies is not resources or technology, but how the organization operates. Look beyond your own industry and daily competitors to bring back ideas from the outside world. Try things out without waiting for perfection, and give frontline teams the freedom to act. I believe that embedding these ways of working into daily life will lead to further development for Japanese companies.
